Advertising Statewide Guidelines
Standards of Acceptance

Though most newspapers are cooperative and easy to work with, they will not accept ads if they appear to be false, misleading, fraudulent, libelous, defamatory, illegal, or in poor taste.

  • Advertising will be rejected if it discriminates on the basis of age, race, religion, sex, etc.
  • Business opportunity and investment ads must indicate the type of business to be invested in and the amount of the investment. All franchise offerings must be registered with the State.
  • Work at home ads, such as “stuffing envelopes,” are not accepted. Also, work at home-ads must either include telephone number or complete address, not PO boxes.
  • Help wanted ads for sales positions must not appear to offer work on a salary basis when it is on commission.
  • Weight control food supplements and appetite suppressants must be registered with the FDA.
  • Loan, credit card, or mortgage ads must be from an established, bonafide, licensed lending institution.
  • No 900 number ads will be accepted.
  • No sex, psychic line, talk line, or personal ads will be accepted.
National Advertising Agency reserves the right to edit all ad copy submitted and reject those ads which are not in compliance with state and/or federal regulations.
